Switching to a natural deodorant

What with this ridiculous humidity recently, it’s got me thinking…

When you think a natural deodorant isn’t working, is it because you still feel like you smell? or that you sweat more?

So let me address the first point. I remember when I first made the switch to a natural deodorant. I was using a chemical based antiperspirant and I honestly thought that as I’d got older and had kids, my hormones were making me sweat more and smell more, and I was literally drowning myself in antiperspirant to try and make it stop! The more I read, I realised that wasn’t the case and that in actual fact it was the antiperspirant that was making the smell, not me. The chemicals in it were stopping my body from performing it’s natural job.

However, when I started using a natural deodorant paste I could still smell things weren’t quite right. I could have given up at that point and concluded that natural pastes don’t work for me, but I read more and figured out that it was because I still hadn’t flushed the chemicals from my body from the old antiperspirant. Shocking right?!

So I set about detoxing my armpits with a product that draws out the impurities that are basically stuck in your body! It took time, but eventually, no smell.

To the second point, sweat. You are going to sweat using a natural deodorant, and that is natural and I’m afraid you’ll just have to get used to it, it’s the body’s way of cooling down. And it’s not as bad as you think.

Men tend to have more of a problem with sweating, some sweat excessively, and that can be a barrier to men switching to a natural deodorant. Mr Lilee isn’t an excessive sweater and yet it took him a while to find the right natural deodorant that was ‘strong’ enough for a man to use. I think it’s all about testing out what works for your body. He uses the natural deodorant that we sell Woohoo All Natural Deodorant Paste – Extra Strength Wild. It’s suitable for men and women.

One issue that sometimes arises for people when they start using a natural deodorant is that they can find one or more of the ingredients an irritant. A lot of people get a rash from sodium bicarbonate which is a major ingredient in natural deodorant, for it’s antibacterial properties. I used to get a rash after shaving, so I found a product that doesn’t include sodium bicarbonate. We stock Woohoo All Natural Deodorant Paste – Mellow Sensitive, which is bi carb free.
